Puna is a proud descendant of Taranaki Iwi, Te Atiawa, Ngāti Mutunga and Ngāti Awa. Puna returned home around 10 years ago to work for her iwi and has been dedicated to iwi, marae and hapū affairs ever since.
Puna has grown up in a family that contributes to the well-being of the Taranaki community culturally and professionally and has a vast network of relationships around Taranaki maunga and te motu whānui
Puna holds a Bachelor of Laws and Arts (Te Reo Māori, Film and Television) and was admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand in 2000. She currently holds many community governance roles including Trustee for Te Niho o Te Atiawa (Parihaka), Te Reo o Taranaki, Rongo Tauā and Ngāti Moeahu hapū.
